Alumni - RIT

HoD's Message

Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at RIT Rajaramnagar.

The department of Civil Engineering is one of the oldest departments of RIT and was established in the year 1983 with an intake of 60 students. Over the past three and half decades, the department has progressed by leaps and bounds and could create its separate identity not only in the region of Shivaji University, Kolhapur but also in the state of Maharashtra due to its continuous efforts in providing quality education to the students.

Being an alumnus it gives me an immense pleasure to lead this department which has experienced and dedicated faculty, staff and students who are always looking forward to see the department’s progress in all respects. The department is committed to provide quality technical education to the students, promising them to become successful professionals; and serve the society through testing and consultancy services by utilizing the expertise of faculty, staff and active involvement of students and alumni.

At present, the department offers one degree program in civil engineering at undergraduate (UG) level, while two M.Tech. programs namely, M. Tech. Civil Structural Engineering and M. Tech. Construction Management at postgraduate (PG) level. The UG program (B.Tech.) in Civil Engineering has been accredited/reaccredited by National Board of Accreditation (NBA), New Delhi. Both the PG programs are accredited once and are now due for reaccreditation process by NBA. The department has been recognized as a ‘Ph.D. center’ by Shivaji University, Kolhapur and till date 4 PhD scholars have been awarded with Ph.D.  The department has well established labs equipped with modern equipment with the help of which it offers consultancy and testing services to various private and government organizations. The department is also the recipient of grants from various schemes of AICTE such as DST-FIST, MODROB, RPS etc. which has helped us modernize the laboratories..

The department has adopted student centric teaching learning methodology known as outcome based education (OBE) system and also implemented the choice based credit system (CBCS) curriculum for promoting the educational liberalization of the existing conventional higher education models. The curriculum has been designed following guidelines of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and considering current needs of industry so that students get equipped with the necessary skills.

The faculty members of our department have excellent academic qualifications and have been conferred with awards at institutional and national levels. They have representation on Board of Studies (BoS) of various Universities and engineering institutions, as well as on the editorial boards of national/international journals. The department organizes workshops, seminars, webinars, national/international seminars and conferences independently as well as in joint association with reputed professional bodies.

The department has good connected with industries for industry institute interaction and has signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with many reputed organizations for seeking opportunities for internships and placements to our students. The department is also having good alumni interaction and every year alumni meets are arranged through the alumni cell to know their present status.  At present, there are over 600 alumni (plz correct this figure), many of which are working on coveted posts in multinational companies. Our alumni use to visit the department more frequently and contribute for the department’s progress in the form of expert lectures, gratitude funds, sponsoring the projects and so on. We feel very proud of our alumni’s working in various parts of country and the world; and contribute their alma mater to so as to be the top level institute/departing imparting quality engineering education to the students.

Finally, I wish my best wishes to all the stakeholders and especially to the alumni’s for their successful endeavors.

Dr. S. S. Kumbhar
